Supernanny highlights the importance of nanny-parent relationship
A recent episode of the TV show Supernanny has highlighted just how important the nanny-parent relationship is when it comes to raising children.
After a decade of being absent from our television screens, Supernanny Jo Frost is back, helping out parents in the USA with their children.
Last Monday’s episode featured Jo lending a hand to the Bradio family, observing parenting patterns that the mum and dad might need to change when it comes to their four young children.
The episode was a hit and was trending on Twitter, but it was one moment in particular that got people talking.
The eldest daughter Riley (four) delivered a truly heart-breaking comment about how her parents were too busy to play with her. Showing Jo her toys, the nanny asked her if she would like to ask mum to play with her. Riley responded, "Mummy is busy," while the parent was soothing her youngest child elsewhere.
Jo then suggested she ask her daddy to play with her instead, but Riley then responded: “Daddy's busy too".
Speaking to the camera, Jo responded: "Riley has clearly got the message that her parents can't make time for her.”
As Jo said, it was almost as if Riley was conditioned to expect mum and dad would not be able to give her any attention or spend time playing with her.
It was a heart-breaking moment which many viewers took to social media to talk about. And it highlights how important the nanny-parent relationship is when it comes to child-rearing.
Utilising nannies and opting to hire household staff can be incredibly helpful for parents and beneficial to the children. However, being busy is by no means an excuse to make children feel like young Riley.
The parent and nanny should former a perfect child-rearing team, combining to ensure each and every child is raised in a home where they feel safe and loved.
The last thing anyone wants is for a child such as Riley to instinctively feel like she would be a bother to her parents by simply wanting to play with them.
With a parent-nanny relationship that is operating how it should, situations like this can be avoided, parents can get the help they need, giving them the time to show their children the love and affection they deserve.
