BAPN nanny association is closing down

In a sad piece of news for the nanny industry, the BAPN, the Professional Association for Nannies, is to close its doors following the retirement of its managing director.

Nannies play a vital role in our culture, providing a valuable domestic service in the raising and rearing of children. BAPN, the Professional Association for Nannies, began with the goal of giving nannies the protection and representation they deserve in the workplace.

However, the UK’s only membership association purely for nannies is to close after 10 years in business. Managing director Tricia Pritchard has made the decision to close the association and retire from the industry after what she has described as an “extremely difficult couple of years.”

Tricia has dedicated over half her life to supporting nannies, battling with employers, campaigning for nanny registration and to professionalise the sector. But after 36 years in the sector and the difficulty of recent years, she has decided to retire and does so as a leading figure in the industry.

BAPN will cease trading on 31st December 2021, however, it will still go ahead with its NannyHub at the Nursery World show in February of 2022, which will be its final engagement.

Posting a special announcement on the BAPN website, Pritchard writes: “It is with a heavy heart and after much discussion with family and friends, that I’ve decided to retire, bringing BAPN to a close.

“As is the case for everyone else, I’ve found these last couple of years extremely difficult.

“I’ve had a wonderful career supporting nannies and campaigning for their improved terms and conditions of employment. I’ve met so many amazing nannies, made lasting friendships, and bow out with great memories and huge respect for the sector. I’ll miss working alongside you all.”

Tricia Pritchard has certainly left her mark on the industry and the loss of BAPN will surely be missed. If you are looking for employment in the sector, our nanny agency can help place you in a great new position.
