How to Recycle Your Christmas Tree
Happy New Year, Everybody!
We hope you’ve had a wonderful Christmas and a great start to 2023 – did you manage to stay up to watch the fireworks?
With the festive season drawing to a close and the Twelfth Night upon us, it’s finally time for our beloved Christmas decorations to be put away for a while.
For many of us, this process brings with it a bit of a dilemma: what do we do with our used Christmas Tree?
There are several options, dependent upon what type of tree you have, which is why we thought we’d share a few of the most eco-friendly ones for you below:
Artificial Trees:
Due to the materials used to create them, most artificial trees are not recyclable, which means the kindest thing to do for the environment is to store it away and reuse it this year.
However, if you really must get rid of your tree, why not consider donating it to a local charity shop or organisation rather than disposing of it in the general waste? You’ll not only help the planet – you’ll be helping others, too.
Cut Trees with No Roots:
If your tree has come from a Christmas Tree farm or has been bought pre-cut, the best way to dispose of your tree will be to recycle it via your local council’s tree recycling scheme by arranging for it to be collected or dropped off accordingly.
If your council doesn’t have a recycling scheme in operation at present, an alternative option would be to take it to your local tip and drop it off in the garden waste section for proper disposal.
Rooted Trees:
If you bought a tree which had its roots intact, the most environmentally (and budget) friendly way to go is to replant it!
Simply move it to a large pot with some fresh compost in it, or plant it outside in your garden, ready to be reused this year.
We hope the tips above are useful and help take some of the stress out of “de-Christmassing” your home. If you don’t already, follow us on Facebook or Instagram to stay up to date with all our latest vacancies and fun activity ideas to help beat those January Blues!
